In case you didn't realize...last post is my attempt at restarting this blog. Lately I've been finding myself reading a lot of other people's blogs and thinking it would be kind of cool to have a record of what is going on in my life...I am not a good "diary" keeper, so maybe the blog thing will be better. I've also been feeling kind of out of touch with my friends (this means YOU!) these days so perhaps this will also remedy to that. And I have quiet some time to spare in the evenings considering i am here by myself (and soon MC will not even be here to entertain me one night a week :-))
So, let's hope this blog thing sticks...who knows!
And I said..."YES"!
On a beautiful Sunday morning at 4am, Zach convinced me to drive all the way from LA to the Bay Area to go for a hike on Page Mill. Halfway through the hike, he went down on his knees and with a banana slug for witness, he asked me to marry him...I said "yes"!

More than one year already
Yes, it's already been a year that Zach and I got married. How crazy is that? And what a year! To celebrate our one year anniversary all I wanted was the one thing I didn't get to do much this year: spent time with my husband! As some (many? all?) of you know, we've had a pretty hectic lifestyle this past year. I work in Scotts Valley, a little town right outside Santa Cruz in Northern California and Zach works in Lompoc, where we "live" or better where he and the cats live and where I visit on the weekends. Lompoc - Scotts Valley one-way is about 230 miles (or 350km for the Europeans)...which takes about 4 hrs if you don't hit traffic. For the past year my life has looked like this: Wake up on monday morning between 4 and 5 am, quietly sneak out of the bedroom in order not to wake Zach, make coffee (in order not to fall asleep on the road) and hit the road by 5:30am in order to be able to get to work by 9am - 9:30am. Work a full day at work, sometimes hit the gym if I have the energy to get there, drive to my little studio, eat dinner and fall asleep by 9pm.
Tuesdays and Wednesdays are regular days: gym, work, dinner, procrastinate, sleep...about once a week or once every other week I would drive out to Woodside (about an hour away) where Marie-Catherine (one of my best friends out here) lives with her little family and spent the evening/night at their place...that would always be the highlight of my week! On Thursdays I usually drive home (Lompoc) after work (leave around 7pm and get to Lompoc around 11-11:30pm), just on time to crawl in bed with Zach and the kittens...and then Friday I get to work from home.
The weekend would always be the best part of my week...on Saturday Zach would usually have to work at least half a day, which allowed me to "take care of business": clean, do laundry, do groceries, skype with the home front, etc... so everything would be ready for Zach&Sylvie time by the time Zach would get home on Saturday afternoon. Our Sundays are the best: we hike, drive to Santa Barbara or San Luis Obispo, hang around coffee shops or just walk around town...pretty much every week we plan our future from the comfy chair of a coffee shop, espresso in hand (I have turned Zach into a coffee-gourmand ;-)...of course all those plans change as soon as reality sets in on Monday morning. Anyway...eventhough we don't get to spend much time together, the time that we do share makes it all worth...and this past year has been by far the best year of my life.

So, I am not sure if anyone is following this blog anymore...but oh well, I might as well try.
The wedding is over, the honeymoon is over, the trip to Belgium is over and now it is back to the grind: work, work, work. But before i start complaining, firs the happy thoughts: The wedding was wonderful!! My mom (and dad, but really mom did most of it) did an amazing job at preparing, stressing, coordinating, stressing, deciding, stressing, planning, stressing...and in the end even enjoying the night itself!! Well done, maman!! Thank you so much for the most beautiful wedding i could have imagined...I know it sounds cliche, but it was really perfect...
For some of you who would like to know some post-wedding details: Zach and I got kicked out of our hotel room by the cleaning staff (we had overslept), and as we rushed to get going I realized I didn't have any pants! What a way to start married life :-) I could already see myself walk around the streets of Hotton in a wedding skirt with a casual T-shirt on top, now that would have been funny! Luckily for me, Zach came to the rescue...he had brought his pair of sturdy working pants (with a build-in hammer holder) in addition to his shorts...so I got to walk around old day in those perfectly fitting carthard working pants...so if this summer you see the new trend of women wearing working pants, you know who started this fashion trend!
I promise the pics will be up soon...next week I am working from home for a weekend as Zach got the 4th of July week off from Space-X for their successful launch (that happened 2 days before the wedding)...go space-x, go!!
See you all soon, and thank you to all of you who made it to the wedding!!

Too long!
Hello ladies,
It's been way to long since I updated this blog (thank you, maman, for reminding me...and melanie for putting some pressure on me :-) (PS: Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii melanie, lets catch up soon..or at least leave each other messages on voice mail!).
So, what has happened in the past month. Well not that much, and it is a little worriesome. Luckily we now have an official wedding planner for the wedding in Tennessee (and of course, we have Mama Denuit, the best planner ever for our wedding in Belgium ;-))
I think I might be the worst nightmare for my wedding planner in TN, though (and perhaps for the one in BE as well, but that has most probably be the case for the past 31 years!)...here is a scene from our first conversation (sorry, Astrid for the repeat):
"So how many bridemaids are you going to have" "Euh, just one, my witness, we are not much
into bridesmaids etc..." "Only one???, so what do you want her towear? Did you think about a style, a color?"
"Euh not really, she canpretty much wear whatever she wants" "WHATTT??? So how am I going to
do to assort her flowers to her dress?" Me: "Flowers?? Does she need flowers?" :-D
As you can see I was probably not made to be a bride...
Other than not having to worry about the music, the flowers, the cake, the photographer (we have one picked out- joehoe!!!!), I also just (FINALLY!) finsihed our save-the-dates. I decided to use my long lost drawing skills (or lack thereof) to make them myself...you'll see how it turned out. I just need to print them and they are all set to go. So watch that mailbox of yours!
What else, what else...oh yes, sometime earlier this month I had a chose-your-wedding-dress-session in SF with Charlene, MC and Caro...hehe...after trying out 6 dresses (there was a max of 8 dresses), I got so fed-up with the "hold your breath...just a little more...there you go!" that I decided to swith the last 2 dresses for an Italian lunch. Probably not the best plan to actually fit in a dress, but eating pasta is sooooooooo much higher on my things-i-enjoy-to-do-on-a-saturday-list than buying wedding dresses.
Unfortunately, I still don't have a dress (for neither of the weddings, in fact) and Zach told me jeans was not an option. Snif!
Voila, for the update...hope the next one will be a little faster

Exactly 365 days to go...
Today is May 26th, 2011...so I have exactly another 365 days (as my best friend, Anouschka pointed out this morning) to call Z my fiance :-) Well actually, perhaps really only 182 days...I think i might have to call him my husband once i sign those papers in TN. Oh well, i am sure i'll get used to that too!
As with all great events, this event calls for a resolution...yes, and mine is, you might have guessed: get in super shape for the big day. How? By my self-made program. I have banned refined sugars from my diet (yes, chocolate is also considered refined sugars....how mean!) and most carbs. Zach was reading this book on how much better it is to eat proteins, so based on this book, I decided to not eat carbs for lunch and dinner...but i can still eat my cereals of toast for breafast. I started the program this morning at breakfast...and i am happy to report that it is almost 3:30pm and i still haven't had any refined sugars! Woehoeeee!
The goal is to lose 1 kg per month, or 6 kg by my wedding date. I'll post regular updates on how this is going...
In the meantime: happy -1 anniversary to us!
Sylvie
PS: I am also happy to announce that I am flying home to Z tomorrow....finally, after being away for 3 weeks

Dates
One more post for today...I promise it's the last one!
We have dates, yes we do!!! Finally, after a back and forth game between parents, grandparents, aunts & uncles...we have settled on our dates. So all, mark your calendars:
Saturday, November 26, 2011 in Tennessee
Saturday, May 26, 2012 in Belgium
Exactly 6 months in between...of course, save the dates will follow soon. The big ceremony with the white dress will be in Belgium...but we plan on having a small, mostly family (and friends who can't make it to Belgium) ceremony in the US...to sign papers, make it official, etc. So keep an eye on the mailbox (that is, if i get time off this project to make my save-the-dates).
Sylvie!
